SPRING RETREAT CANCELED

CAMPUS CENTER CLOSING SATURDAY 6PM

Much has happened in a day.

On the morning of March 13, two cases of coronavirus were announced in Austin. Later in the day, two more campus-related cases were announced.

Due to these developments, LFC spring retreat is now unfortunately canceled.

Furthermore, the LFC campus center will be closed to student access starting Saturday, March 14, at 6pm until further notice. If you have items to retrieve in the building, please do so before then or contact Cary for access.

BUT LET'S STAY CONNECTED!

Now is as important as ever to be in touch with each other, encouraging each other, praying for each other, and having fun with each other. Our community will thrive!

There are many ways to do this.

During this time, the LFC GroupMe will be the primary connecting point for the whole community.

The coronavirus pandemic is heavy on everyone’s minds right now. The direct and indirect effects have been serious and widespread. With the University of Texas at Austin’s extension of Spring Break, and the possible move of on-campus classes to an online format, the situation is being taken seriously. Large events in the area have been discouraged or outright canceled.

While the direct threat to the Austin and campus areas is low right now, precautions remain important in the effort to keep it that way. Part of our mission to love others now includes special attention to what we do to avoid spread of communicable disease.

Here is what we would like you to know regarding Longhorn for Christ’s approach to and policies regarding the situation.

  • As of March 12, 2020, all events will still proceed as scheduled, including Spring Retreat and subsequent worship and Life Group gatherings through April and May.
  • Let’s Start Talking summer mission projects will continue as planned. We have been in communication with Let’s Start Talking regarding the missions in Brazil and Senegal, and will continue to monitor the worldwide situation. But for now, those projects will proceed until the circumstances demand a change.
  • The campus center will remain open daily. Hand sanitizer will be provided at each entrance and on each floor. We highly encourage the use of sanitizer as you enter and exit the building, and to be proactive in washing your hands regularly.

However, we must exercise precautions.

  • If you are experiencing symptoms of any kind, do not participate in any event or use the campus center building. But please let us know if you are so we can serve you an any way you need.
  • LFC will follow any specific guidelines encouraged by the City of Austin and/or the University of Texas regarding group gatherings. So far, our gatherings fall outside of the levels of concern communicated by the city.
  • Wash your hands regularly and make use of provided hand sanitizer. Do not share cups, utensils, water bottles, plates, etc. LFC will alter things like communion service at worship and more to observe careful precautions.

Let’s use this as an opportunity to pray for the world, to live by wisdom, and to rely on the strength and peace of God in a time where much is unknown. Jesus himself helps us to see past these anxieties in Luke 12. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.” He goes on to say “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.” One of the very cores of our faith is being able to seek stability in God during uncertain times. Let us do that together!

LFC staff will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days and will update accordingly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please be in touch with Cary directly at 205-239-9855 or cary@longhornsforchrist.org.

May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you,

Cary McCall, campus minister, and the Longhorns for Christ ministry staff
